PEI Photo Tours
Prince Edward Island is a paradise for photographers, offering a colour wheel palette of red soil, green fields, and blue waters. Though Canada’s smallest province, it boasts an incredible diversity of scenery waiting to be explored. Allow photography be your guide and discover the beauty of Prince Edward Island your way.

Stephen DesRoches
Prince Edward Island has been my home for over 40 years and I have been exploring PEI with a camera for 20 of those years. I am co-author of the book A Photographer's Guide to PEI and I was a past tourism ambassador in the Ask An Islander program.

01
Coastline
Stretching approximately 1,770 km, Prince Edward Island’s coastline is constantly evolving. The red sandstone cliffs and sandy dunes are prone to erosion and shaped by the forces of nature. The south shore is influenced by the shifting tides of the Northumberland Strait, while the north shore, facing the Gulf of St. Lawrence, is home to the Prince Edward Island National Park.
02
Lighthouses
Fishing villages, historic harbours, and 63 lighthouses shape Prince Edward Island’s scenic coastline. Many of these lighthouses feature classic wooden tower designs, often painted in the Island’s signature white and red. Though remnants of the past, they remain iconic and timeless subjects for photography.

03
Wildlife
PEI lacks large predators but its diverse ecosystem is home to over 300 bird species, including eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, and piping plovers. Its coastal waters support seals and occasional whale sightings, while its forests and fields are inhabited by red foxes, coyote, snowshoe hares, raccoons, and beavers.
04
Interior
Prince Edward Island is renowned for its rich red clay soil, which has made agriculture a cornerstone of the Island's economy and identity. Expansive farmlands are dedicated to growing potatoes, grains, canola, vegetables, and berries. In autumn, the Island’s unpaved heritage roads are framed by vibrant fall colours and become a photographer's dream.

Island Photographs

The coastline of Prince Edward Island is what I photograph the most. It changes so much year to year.

Two of my favourite subjects. The Cape Tryon lighthouse and a red fox hunting in the snow covered field.

A clear night sky and a promising forecast for an aurora display is always worth staying up for.

A bald eagle glides across the rolling snow covered hills of central Prince Edward Island.
